“Does this campground have service?” is one of the most-asked questions in every RV forum, and the reason it keeps getting asked is that the obvious tool — the carrier coverage map — is the wrong scale for the job. Here is a method that works, and what to trust at each step.
Open any carrier’s coverage map and most of the country looks covered. Then you arrive at a campground inside that shaded area and have one flickering bar. The map is not lying, it is answering a different question: it models expected coverage across a region, generally assuming open terrain, at a resolution far coarser than a single campsite.
Campsites are exactly where that model breaks down. A canyon wall, a ridge between you and the tower, or heavy tree canopy over the pad can each take a well-covered area down to nothing. Public-land campgrounds — national forest, BLM, many state and national parks — are where this happens most, and they are also where RVers most want to know in advance.

Used together these cover each other’s gaps well. Used alone, each one will eventually strand you.
Start at the campground, not the town — service at the visitor center tells you little about a site two miles up the road. Check camper reports for your carrier specifically, since a strong Verizon report means little if you are on T-Mobile. Then look at the terrain: if the site is deep in a canyon or under heavy canopy, discount an optimistic prediction and assume Starlink will struggle too. Finally, decide what your fallback is before you book, not after you arrive.
If service is genuinely required rather than nice to have, filter for it up front instead of checking sites one at a time. Sorting a list by connectivity is a different exercise from vetting a site you already picked, and it is a much better use of the same data.
