Camp Roostly Connector Privacy
Last updated: 2026-10-28
The Camp Roostly connector lets AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT look up campground connectivity from Camp Roostly: modeled cell coverage by carrier, Starlink sky-view ratings, and booking links. It is free, read-only, and needs no sign-in. This page covers the connector only. If you go on to use the Camp Roostly app, our main Privacy Policy applies there.
What the connector collects
Nothing personal. The connector has no accounts and never asks for your name, email, or location. It never sees your conversation. It only receives the search your assistant sends when it uses one of the connector's tools:
- Search details: a place name or map coordinates, a search radius, and optional filters (carrier, minimum signal, Starlink, rig length), or a campground name and state.
- The assistant's name and version (for example "Claude"), sent when it connects.
The connector only reads public campground data. It never reads or changes anyone's Camp Roostly account, trips, or other personal data.
What we log, and why
For each lookup we record:
- which tool was used, the search details above, how many results came back, and how long it took;
- which assistant the request came through (for example
mcp_claude); - a random session id and a scrambled network code, used only to limit how many lookups one conversation or network can make. The network code is a one-way hash that changes every day. We never store your IP address.
When you click a booking link from an answer, we record the campground, which assistant the link came from, and your browser's user-agent string, so we can count bookings that started in a chat.
We use these logs to keep the connector running, stop abuse, and see whether it's useful. We don't sell them, share them for advertising, or use them to identify anyone.
How long we keep it
- Lookup logs: deleted automatically after 12 months.
- Booking-link clicks: deleted automatically after 24 months. We keep these longer so we can match them to booking commissions.
- Rate-limit keys: the network code changes every day, so it can't be linked across days.
Nothing from the connector is stored in your browser or on your device.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or share connector data with anyone for their own use. It's processed only by the services listed below, which run the connector for us.
Links in answers
Camp Roostly links in connector answers carry a source tag (for
example utm_source=mcp_claude). If you open one and later
create a Camp Roostly account, that tag is saved with your new account
so we know the signup came from the connector. Nothing about you is
sent back to the assistant.
Services the connector uses
- Supabase: hosts the connector and the campground database.
- Google Geocoding: turns a place name like "Moab, UT" into map coordinates. Only the place name is sent.
Your conversation itself is handled by your AI assistant under its own privacy policy (for example Anthropic or OpenAI).
About the data
Cell coverage comes from the FCC Broadband Data Collection. It is a model of where carriers report service, not a guarantee. Every answer states the date of the coverage data.
Connecting it
Setup steps, what it can answer, and troubleshooting are on the Camp Roostly connector page. You can remove it any time from your assistant's connector settings.
